I haven't updated my blog in quite some time because these past few weeks have been insanely busy. Since my last post we have had 7 games, in 5 different cities and 2 different countries. At one point we played Saturday night (5 sets), had practice Sunday morning, drove 7 hours to Dresden, had practice Monday morning, a game Monday night, drove back to Hamburg (arriving at 5 am Tuesday), practice Tuesday night, practice Wednesday morning, game Wednesday night (5 sets)…and it continues with practice after practice and game after game. Needless to say, November has been an exhausting month. We had two very important wins this month in CEV Challenge Cup though (this is the cup that's all across Europe). Since we won both home and away games against Bratislava (Slovakian team) we will advance and play a team in Croatia! I was excited to put some new stamps in my passport but since they're part of the EU they don't really check. But, it is another country that I have never been to! France, Holland, Germany, Slovakia, Austria (although we didn't see much) and now Croatia…still can't believe I have the opportunity to do all of this.

I honestly forgot how good it feels to win but now I can tell you that it feels AMAZING! Last night we had our first cup match against Kopenick, the team we lost to a week and a half ago. When I saw that we played the same team back to back, I was a little confused as to why. Apparently in Germany (and I think in most of Europe), you play in a few different "leagues". Not only do we have season (play every team in the first league twice, both home and away with playoffs at the end of the season) but we also play in Challenge Cup (play different teams from different countries, both home and away) and finally we have DVV Cup (play the same teams in Germany but if you lose, you're out). So it was pretty important for us to win. Last year they also played Kopenick in the first round and lost, making this victory even more rewarding. It was also our first official win so we of course had to celebrate…popping a bottle of champagne in the locker room will do (never even crossed my mind but I'm sure glad someone thought of it. Thanks Sarah!) Our next game is this Saturday against Schwerin (regular season and Cup champs from last year) so hopefully we can continue with another victory! Side note…I have a very loving and caring Mother who sends me packages just about every week. I'm pretty sure the postal workers will soon know me by name. Instead of Halloween decorations though, she has started to send me clothes. For some reason I don't think she trusts me to dress myself and I'm not quite sure why…. ;) Love you Mom!
Halloween isn't as big in Europe as it is in America but when my Mom heard that, she decided to send the entire Target dollar Halloween section to Germany….so we decided to have a Halloween celebration. On Sunday night (last Sunday) a couple of my teammates and I got together to decorate, dress up (put my Mom's gifts to good use), carve pumpkins and eat (pumpkin bread, pumpkin soup, pumpkin cookies, everything pumpkin!). For many of my teammates, it was their first Halloween experience but I think we may have convinced them to celebrate for years to come.
